Describing Indo-Russia ties as "excellent", outgoing Indian Ambassador to Moscow Krishnan Raghunath has said that his country has the "deepest political trust" with Russia, more than with any other nation.
"We are two very large economies and their close interaction is natural," Raghunath told reporters at his final briefing before leaving for home today (Aug 19, 2004) after completion of his three-year stint in Moscow.
Terming bilateral political relations as "excellent" and "very steady", he said New Delhi has the "deepest political trust with Russia, more than with any other country" and cautioned Indian business and public opinion against ignoring Russia.
He said that in the wake of the USSR (United Soviet Sovereign Republic) disintegration in 1991 the bilateral relations had witnessed "depression" in
most of the fields.
"Things have changed in last five years and are back on track. Some focus is here on India and we have to learn ourselves to see Russia," Raghunath said.
Expressing satisfaction at the development of bilateral political ties in which annual summits has become a regular feature with fifth summit to be held in December during President Vladimir Putin's India visit.
The defence ties were also another area identified by Raghunath where India and Russia have very close interaction.
