IOC officially expels Chanu over positive dope test

Athens: International Olympic Committee yesterday (Aug 20, 2004) officially expelled weightlifter Sanamachu Chanu from the Athens Olympic Games following a positive drug test.

Chanu, who was tested positive for a banned diuretic furosemide, was stripped of her fourth-place finish in the 53 kg category by the IOC.

The IOC also expelled Uzbekistan's shot putter Olga Shchukina for testing positive in an out-of-competition screening on August 14 for banned steroid Clenbuterol.
