'Finance Bill will be passed; rest the way we want' Monday, August 23 2004 20:46 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Aug 23, 2004) blamed the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government for the stalemate in Parliament on the Uma Bharti issue but promised that Opposition was ready to allow passage of the Finance Bill without any discussion.
"Finance Bill will be passed without discussion. Rest, according to what we want", he told reporters in New Delhi hours after both Houses were adjourned for the day following uproar on the Uma Bharti issue.
Alleging that the Government had created the situation in Parliament, he said BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) would also continue to vociferously raise the Savarkar issue in Parliament.
Replying to a question, he ruled out the possibility of Uma Bharti seeking a bail in the case after her failure to get reprieve from a court in Hubli.
When asked whether the Opposition would continue to stall Parliament, party president M Venkaiah Naidu said, "We will continue to highlight the Uma Bharti issue."
He said Congress' attitude in the matter was akin to the one adopted by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the Shah Bano case.
Observing that the Congress and its Government had created the Savarkar and Uma Bharti issues, he said, "Congress is making way for those tainted ministers to go."
