Peoples War rejects 'not to move with arms' demand Tuesday, August 24 2004 11:27 Hrs (IST)
Hyderabad:
The People's War Group (PWG) has criticised the State Government for asking them not to carry arms while moving in villages and appealed people to mount pressure on it to have unconditional talks with the naxals.
In an open letter to the public signed by PWG State secretary Ramakrishna, which was circulated to media in Hyderabad, alleged that one side the Government was indulging in killing of its cadre in covert operations, on the other it was imposing conditions by asking naxals not to carry arms while propagating their ideology in villages.
This would create hurdles in the way of proposed talks, he said.
"To disarm the armed struggle, the Government has incorporated a clause in the terms and conditions of ceasefire which prohibit its cadre to carry arms which was being opposed by us," he said.
It was wrong to say that if armed naxals visit villages, there was a chance to take advantage of the situation by anti-social elements, Ramakrishna said.
Urging people to pressurise the Government for imposing condition for not to carry arms by its cadre, he said the PWG is ready to have peace talks with Government without any pre-condition.
On August two, the PWG emissaries and representatives of Janasakhti in a meeting with Home Minister K Jana Reddy had raised objection on the clause which stipulated that PWG cadre should not move with weapons during the ceasefire period.
