Police to arrest Uma Bharati as she enters Karnataka Tuesday, August 24 2004 10:11 Hrs (IST)
Hubli:
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti would be arrested after she enters Karnataka following a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against her in connection with a 10-year old criminal case, DGP S N Borkar said today (Aug 24, 2004).
The four-member team led by Dharwad district Superintendent of Police D Rupa which was despatched on Sunday (Aug 22, 2004) to execute the NBW, was on its way back from Mumbai and they only would arrest her, Borkar said.
The team could not proceed to Bhopal as they could not get a connecting flight and also because Bharti decided to come by train to Karnataka, he said.
Borkar said they had not yet decided the place of her arrest.
Bharti had announced yesterday (Aug 23, 2004) that she would reach Hubli by train and surrender tomorrow before the court which had issued the NBW on August three in connection with the case relating to the hoisting of the national flag at the disputed Idgah Maidan in Hubli in 1994.
Bokar said 4,000 policemen would be on duty.
Prohibitory orders have been extended to be in force till tomorrow evening (Aug 25, 2004).
