Uma won't be arrested if she surrenders: K'taka CM
Tuesday, August 24 2004 16:46 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Karnataka police will not arrest Uma Bharti if her surrender before a Hubli court is "trouble free", Chief Minister Dharam Singh said today (Aug 24, 2004).

He told reporters after a meeting with top police officials that the police have been asked to decide whether to allow the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister to surrender before the court or arrest her upon her entry into the State.

"Depending upon the situation if the surrender is trouble-free then the police will not arrest her," he said.

DGP S N Borkar had said earlier in the day that Bharti, who is travelling by a train to Hubli from Bhopal, would be arrested the moment the train enters Karnataka.

The meeting was attended by Home Commissioner Brahma Dutt, Borkar and other top police officials.
