Bangalore:
Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha L K Advani would launch a "Satyagraha" in Bangalore on September 1, to step up the BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) campaign for withdrawal of "false cases" against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, now in jail at Dharwad in Karnataka.
This was announced in Bangalore tonight (Aug 26, 2004) to reporters by party leader Sushma Swaraj.
Known as the "Bangalore satyagraha", it would have the slogan, "Rashtra Dwaj ki apman, nahi sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate insult to the national flag)", Swaraj said.
She said the party president M Venkaiah Naidu was chalking out details of the seven-day programme.
Leaders from different States would take part in the "satyagraha" every day, Swaraj said.
"It is not a movement of Uma Bharti. It has become a BJP movement and later it will be a national movement," she said.
She also announced that BJP Karnataka unit President Ananth Kumar and Opposition leader in the Assembly B S Yediyurappa would also launch "Rashtra Dwaj Gaurav Raksha Yatra" from Hubli on August 28.
