ISI suspects held in Kolkata with vital documents

Kolkata: Two ISI suspects were arrested from a shoe shop in Bowbazar area in central Kolkata with maps of Army and Air Force movement and deployment, which were vital documents pertaining to national security, the police said today (Aug 26, 2004).

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the two persons when they entered the shop last night (Aug 25, 2004).

The arrested were identified as Nazrul Islam Goldar and Mohammad Mafizul Islam, who entered the metropolis from Swarupnagar in North 24-Parganas district.

Some Indian currency was seized from them, police said. The nationality of the two was being ascertained.

According to the sources, some more persons were believed to be involved in the ISI racket in West Bengal and in Mumbai.

The arrested were today produced in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court which remanded them to police custody till September 4.
