Flash floods wash away 29 persons in Uttaranchal

Khatima (Uttaranchal): Twenty-nine labourers were washed away early this morning in flash floods in Kailashu river at Akrouli village in Udhampur Nagar district.

"Twenty nine people were washed away in the floods in Akrouli," Udhampur Nagar district magistrate Sunderlal Munyal said.

Thirty labourers, sleeping in an open area in Akrouli, sought refuge in a tractor trolley to save themselves from the rushing waters, official reports said.

However, the strong current washed away the trolley, taking with it 29 labourer, they said adding one person managed to swim to safety.
