Bhutto's son says family hounded by 'cooked up cases' Friday, August 27 2004 18:21 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
With little chance of his mother returning from self-exile in the near future and no end in sight for his father's detention, Bilawal, the teenaged son of former premier Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, claims that he and his family have been hounded by "cooked up cases".
Turning 16 next month, Bilawal, who lives with his mother and two younger sisters in Dubai, has been in Karachi for the past few months spending some rare moments with his father, who is in prison for the eighth consecutive year awaiting conviction in a host of cases.
Just studying in 10th standard in a Dubai school, the young man, who is a black-belt in martial art Taekwando, made no effort, during an interview to local daily 'Dawn', to hide his bitterness and anger over the way his mother and father have been treated by successive Pakistani regimes.
He claimed he and his family have been hounded with "cooked up cases" and believed that most of Pakistan's problems can be solved if there is justice and democracy in the country.
Bilawal was not sure whether he is ready yet to test the murky political waters. "We will see, I don't know. I would like to help the people of Pakistan, so I will decide when I finish my studies," he said.
When asked what he meant by serving people, he said, "I can either enter politics, or I can enter another career that would benefit the people."
He spends most of his time meeting and interacting with his father, who has been allowed to undergo treatment at a hospital in Karachi for various ailments, during his stay in Pakistan.
