Bangalore:
As copious rains have brought cheers to people, Karnataka Government today (Aug 27, 2004) decided to celebrate the world famous Dasara festivities at its cultural capital Mysore on a grand scale, ending a four-year low-key celebration hit by drought conditions.
Addressing a press conference after the maiden meeting of the high-level committee on Dasara celebrations chaired by the Chief Minister N Dharam Singh, Siddaramaiah said, "We want to give this year's Dasara a grandeur touch reflecting the cultural heritage of the State".
The emphasis will be on attracting more tourists, particularly foreigners and the Government will continue efforts to lure sponsors as was done last year, Siddaramaiah, who is in charge of Mysore district said.
Following good revenues earned last year, about Rs 53.19 lakh surplus has been left in the Dasara account and the Government has made Rs 73 lakh budgetary allocation for this year celebrations, he said.
The Navarathri festival, which signals the beginning of Dasara festival would commence from October 15, for which the committee was trying to choose a dignatory to inaugurate the events.
The executive committee of Dasara festivities will meet at Mysore tomorrow (Aug 28, 2004) to finalise programmes and artists to be invited to perform during the nine-day show, Siddaramaiah said.
Earlier Singh declared that the Government was ready to give adequate funds for the festival.
