Pak's ISI supplying arms to ULFA: Assam police Wednesday, September 22 2004 12:46 Hrs (IST)
Guwahati:
Pakistan's ISI is supplying arms and ammunition to ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) and inducing it to engage in subversive activities in Assam, a top Assam police official said today (Aug 27, 2004).
"We have got definite information that ISI is supplying arms and ammunition to ULFA for conducting bomb blasts throughout the State," IGP of special branch Khagen Sarmah told sources in Guwahati today.
He said there has been a significant change in the strategies adopted by the banned outfit of late, which showed the growing influence of the ISI.
Earlier ULFA opted for selected targets, but were now carrying out blasts in public places, which showed the "big influence of ISI which is masterminding the entire show."
Claiming that ULFA's commander-in-chief Paresh Barua was the "sole person" responsible for the recent bomb blasts that have rocked the State, Sarmah said the outfit's leader is completely guided by the ISI.
The intercepted messages of the ULFA revealed that it was behind all kinds of violence that have rocked the State.
He expressed satisfaction that the general people had openly reacted openly against such repeated violent attacks by the ULFA and said time will come when public anger will bring the curtains down for the outfit.
