In my view JK dialogue is moving forward: Musharraf Saturday, August 28 2004 16:45 Hrs (IST)
Islamabad:
Observing that the dialogue process with India was moving forward, President Pervez Musharraf today (Aug 28, 2004) said Pakistan would be in a better position to comment on it after the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries next month.
"In my view it is moving forward," he said, replying to a question on progress of Indo-Pak composite dialogue process after the swearing-in of Shaukat Aziz as Prime Minister.
However, Musharraf said Pakistan would be in a better position to comment after the meeting between the two Foreign Ministers in New Delhi on September 5-6 to review the official-level talks on the eight-point composite dialogue process.
"We would be in a better position to comment on the dialogue process after the talks between Foreign Ministers of two countries next month," he said.
Aziz, after his election as leader of the National Assembly yesterday (Aug 27, 2004), said that his Government would continue the dialogue process with India to seek peaceful settlement of all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.
"We want to find a solution to the Kashmir dispute that reflects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people," he said in his thanks-giving address in the National Assembly.
At the same time, Aziz, the former Citibank executive who till now served as Finance Minister since 1999, said his Government would accord top most priority to national defence.
"We are fully aware that Pakistan's nuclear programme is central to our national defence and with this in view, this programme would not only continue but it would be further refined."
