Controversy over PM's misbehaviour resolved: Advani
Saturday, August 28 2004 20:27 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: After his party leaders raised a hue and cry over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's alleged "impolite" behaviour, Leader of Opposition L K Advani today (Aug 28, 2004) broke his silence on the matter saying the issue relating to that incident is over.

"Woh mudda, jo us ghatna ke bare me hai, who khatam ho gaya (the issue related to that incident has ended)," he told 'Aaj Tak'.

Advani said efforts should now focus on rebuilding the relationship between Government and Opposition in which the former has "greater responsibility".

On the incident that allegedly took place when an NDA (National Democratic Alliance) delegation led by him called on the Prime Minister to submit a memorandum suggesting amendments in the Finance Bill, he said, "That experience was unique".

"None of the seven of us (who were in NDA delegation) have had such an experience," Advani said commenting for the first time on the incident.

Denying that NDA had kicked up the row as part of its "strategy", the former Deputy Prime Minister said, "We praised him (Singh) when he became the Prime Minister."

"No one expected, we were all surprised," he said.

Advani said when Jaswant Singh called up Atal Bihari Vajpayee to inform him about the incident at his behest, the former Prime Minister quipped, "Thank God, I was not there."
