Polite to Sonia's grandson, impolite to NDA? Swaraj Saturday, August 28 2004 15:49 Hrs (IST)
Dharwad:
Senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Sushma Swaraj today (Aug 28, 2004) accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of being "extra polite" to Sonia Gandhi's grandson, and "tough and discourteous" to a NDA (National Democratic Alliance) delegation which had called on him last week to submit a memorandum.
Swaraj told reporters in Dharwad, citing media pictures, noted that Singh greeted the son of Priyanka Vadra with folded hands and "it was not politeness".
"While the Prime Minister was being extra polite with the child, he was tough and discourteous to the NDA delegation which was representative in character," she said adding that the delegation had BJP floor leader in the Lok Sabha L K Advani, Jaswant Singh and NDA convenor George Fernandes.
Referring to Singh's behaviour when the NDA delegation met him she said that in her 27 years of public life, she never imagined that such a thing would happen.
"Prime Minister threw the memorandum that he will not accept it saying it was not discussed in the parliament and why they wanted to discuss in their chamber," Swaraj said.
She said Singh had not acted on the memorandum a bit, the Opposition would not have minded, but courtesy demands that he should have exchanged pleasantries. "All of us were taken aback by Singh's behaviour."
Earlier she described Singh as an "ordinary" Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi as "super" Prime Minister.
Swaraj also alleged that Sonia was behind Karnataka Government's move to reopen the case against former Madhya Chief Minister Uma Bharti.
When asked if there was any brain behind Sonia's move in the Bharti's issue, she commented, "She (Sonia) does not need brains."
