'Non-performance the hallmark of 100-day UPA rule' Sunday, August 29 2004 19:32 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore:
Lashing out at the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) today (Aug 29, 2004) said non-performance in every stage of governance and confrontation with Opposition are the hallmarks of its 100-days in office.
"Collision with coalition" is the other highlight of the Congress-led UPA Government, BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters while commenting on the completion of 100 day in office by the Manmohan Singh Government.
Demanding the Congress to project its achievements before the nation, Naidu however admitted that 100 days was not "a big time" to assess a Government, but added "it can give an indication of its direction".
Characterising UPA as DPA (Divided Progressive Alliance), Naidu, said the Congress-led Government was in a minority on the issue of "tainted" ministers as its partners, including left parties and Lok Jan Shakti (LJS), have been demanding their removal, while Samajwadi Party, that supports it from outside too favoured such ministers being dropped.
The biggest achievement of the UPA Government was raising the inflation by 100 per cent in 100 days and steep increase in prices of essential commodities, Naidu said.
Naidu remarked, "the UPA Government worked very had to bring the inflation level which was three per cent when BJP demitted office to eight per cent".
