Uma all set to be released, but BJP protest to go on Tuesday, August 31 2004 16:22 Hrs (IST)
Kozhikode:
Accusing the Karnataka Government of repeatedly changing its stand vis-a-vis the case pending against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader, Uma Bharti, BJP all-india secretary L Ganesan today (Aug 31, 2004) said his party would go ahead with its proposed week-long agitation in Bangalore from tomorrow (Sep 01, 2004) demanding her "unconditional" release.
"The Dharam Singh Government's submission before the Karnataka High Court yesterday will not suffice....what we want is that the original petition filed before the Hubli sessions court should be withdrawn and Uma be released unconditionally," he told a press conference in Kozhikode.
Asked if his party's agitation would not tantamount to challenging the judiciary, Ganesan said, "The case itself was politically-motivated and we are fighting it on similar lines."
"The Karnataka Government expects us to withdraw our protest before taking a final decision on withdrawing its original case pending before the Hubli court. The agitation will go on as scheduled until Uma is released unconditionally," he said.
BJP's Kerala unit will take out rallies from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod to Bangalore to participate in the proposed "satyagraha" on September seven under the leadership of party's national president, M Venkaiah Naidu, he said.
