Blast on the eve of swearing-in of Pak Cabinet

Islamabad: A loud explosion was heard in Islamabad today (Sep 01, 2004) as the Government prepared to swear-in a new Cabinet in the Presidential palace.

Security forces were put on high alert in the capital and neighbouring garrison town of Rawalpindi.

Buildings and Windowpanes rattled due to the impact of the blast.

The explosion was heard at 2.15 pm (2.45 pm IST) and a private TV channel reported that ambulances were seen rushing to the Dhamyal military base, near Rawalpindi.

Smoke was seen billowing from the area.
