Ultras take 2 women of JK hostage in Poonch encounter

Poonch (J&K): Suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants today (Sep 3, 2004) forced their entry into a mosque in a village in JK and held two women hostage after an encounter with security forces which left one jawan killed, official sources said in JK.

The duo, who were engaged in an encounter with security forces around 1430 hrs (IST) at Shindra village, about 10 kms from Poonch, forced their entry into the mosque, the sources said adding during the encounter one security jawan was killed.

Two women, who were present in the mosque were not allowed to move out of the premises by the ultras, the sources said adding the ultras also closed all doors and windows of the mosque from inside.

Security forces and police have rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to secure safe release of the women and also track down the militants, believed to be belonging to LeT outfit.
