Non-bailable warrant on actress Jayaprada pending Saturday, September 4 2004 15:03 Hrs (IST)
Hyderabad:
A Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued against Samajwadi Party MP and film actress Jayaprada and TDP (Telugu Desam Party) former MP S Venugopalchari was pending for execution for last one-year in Hyderabad.
The NBW was issued by 17th Metropolitan Magistrate in July last year in connection with a case registered against them during Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) election in 2002.
Cases were registered against Jayaprada, who was then in TDP and Venugopalchari along with eight others under section 126 of the Representation of the People Act and Sections 143 (Punishment for unlawful assembly) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duties) two years ago.
They were campaigning for the TDP and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) candidates in MCH elections on January 20, 2002, which was last day for
campaigning.
The cases were filed against them for addressing public meeting in Musheerabad locality even after deadline of 5 hrs (IST) fixed by Election Commission.
The Musheerabad police inspector M Bhaskar Reddy said six persons were arrested in this case while two others got "the warrants recalled".
However, the NBW could not be executed on Jayaprada and Chari.
When contacted Central Zone DCP Srinivasulu told sources that "we are in process of executing the NBW in next three to four days if they (Jayaprada and Chari) did not comply the judiciary norms".
