10 top ULFA militants killed in Meghalaya, Assam Wednesday, September 8 2004 18:16 Hrs (IST)

Ten hardcore ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) militants have been killed in two separate incidents in Meghalaya and Assam, Defence sources said in Guwahati today (Sep 8, 2004).
Eight hardcore ULFA militants, who had taken shelter in a house in Balsatgiri village, about 16 kms from Tikrikilla in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, were killed in an intra-group clash on the night of September 6.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fight was over sharing money, the sources said.
Senior police officials from Assam have rushed to the spot while army troops were camping in the place and combing the nearby areas to nab two ultras who managed to escape.
Besides the bodies of the eight ULFA militants, two AK-56 and AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, large quantity of grenades and documents were recovered from the house.
In the other incident in Assam's Barpeta district, troops of Red Horns Division launched an operation in Pathacharkuchi area last night and killed two hardcore militants.
Two AK-56 rifles with magazines, 82 live rounds, and 10 metres of cordex used in IEDs have been recovered.
