The Prime Minister is ineffective, says Uma
Saturday, September 11 2004 12:50 Hrs (IST)

Bijapur: Into the second day of her "Tiranga Yatra", former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti today (Sep 11, 2004) charged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was "directionless and indecisive" and blamed his Government for undoing the "good deeds" of the Vajpayee Government.

Speaking to reporters before starting her "yatra" in Bijapur, she said before Singh became Prime Minister, none had "disrespect" towards him but now he "appears lost" and was not showing the "moral courage" to act on the "tainted ministers" issue.

"Six years of development done by the Vajpayee Government has been undone in three months by the Manmohan Singh Government," she charged. "The Prime Minister is not functioning independently and is ineffective."

Bharti also flayed the "so-called detoxification" of textbooks begun by Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, saying it was influenced by the Leftists. "A thought should be countered by another thought and not by raising needless controversies. "Let there be a public debate on so-called saffronisation of education by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government."

Asked if her "Tiranga Yatra" would benefit the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in the Maharashtra polls, she said it might but "it is for you to analyse".
