Two CRPF officers killed in militant attack in JK Sunday, September 12 2004 10:56 Hrs (IST)

Two senior CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) officers and same number of militants were killed and four other security personnel injured in a night-long gunbattle at a CRPF camp in Dal Gate area in Srinagar.
The stand-off, which erupted after militants of the al-Mansurian outfit stormed a hotel housing the 94th battalion of the force late yesterday (Sep 11, 2004), is continuing as security forces are engaged in a pitched battle with the holed up militants.
Two CRPF officers -- Second-in-Command of 65th battalion Chetram and Second-in-Command of 64th battalion Ananthnathan -- were killed and four CRPF personnel were injured in the encounter, Inspector General, CRPF (Kashmir range) Ranjeet Sinha told.
Two militants were also killed in the encounter, he added.
Exploding grenades and opening indiscriminate fire, the ultras had stormed Hotel York at around 9.30 pm yesterday.
