PM should throw out tainted ministers or quit: Uma
Sunday, September 12 2004 19:59 Hrs (IST)

Udgir: Stepping up attack on the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti today (Sep 12, 2004) asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to either sack the 'tainted' ministers in his Government or quit.

Attributing Singh as an 'otherwise honest man' who was caught among 'thieves and the dishonest', she alleged that the Prime Minister lacked resolve and challenged him to throw out the tainted ministers, against whom the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) had spearheaded an attack in Parliament in the past.

Being indecisive on the issue of tainted ministers was not good for Singh himself as well as the country, Bharti said, addressing her first public rally in Maharashtra, soon after her Hubli-Jalianwalah bagh "Tiranga Yatra" entered the Latur district on the border of Karnataka this afternoon.

Comparing Singh with the mythological figure of 'Vidur', who sided with the evil Kauravas even though he did not subscribe to their acts, the BJP leader said the Prime Minister was being pulled from three sides, namely, by his responsibility as a Prime Minister, the 'super prime minister' (ostensibly referring to the Congress President), and the CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist), which is an ally in the UPA Government.
