'Tiranga Yatra aimed at spreading communal frenzy'
Monday, September 13 2004 20:03 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Congress today (Sep 13, 2004) attacked BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party) Tiranga Yatra dubbing it "Danga Yatra" aimed at spreading communal frenzy and accused Uma Bharti of indulging in "gutter level" politics by making charges against Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.

"It is yet another repeat act of BJP and Sangh Parivar. They are bad losers, incapable of providing constructive and responsible Opposition. Sangh Parivar is busy in whipping up frenzy of hardline Hindutva," Party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters in New Delhi.

Asserting that there was no logic or justification for such an agitation, he had a dig at saffron party saying it has launched the movement as they did not have any other issue and wanted to "engage" Bharti in some work after "getting rid of her" as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.

Sharma was also critical of VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) launching an agitation to demolish the Tomb of Afzal Khan at Pratapgarh Fort in Maharashtra with an eye on elections.

"The intention of the BJP and Sangh Parivar can not be loss on anyone," he said.

Accusing BJP of "misusing" the National flag, he also rejected M Venkaiah Naidu's suggestion that Congress should change its party flag, as it resembled the National Tri-colour, the party today said it was the symbol of the party's struggle for the country's freedom.

"The party flag is the product of the national struggle. Our freedom fighters fought the country's freedom holding the tri-colour in their hand. We have historical and emotional relations with it," Sharma said.
