'Don't let Cong propose Rahul's girlfriend as PM'
Monday, September 13 2004 22:36 Hrs (IST)

Parli (Maharashtra): BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Uma Bharti today (Sep 13, 2004) said Congressmen made a blunder once by offering Prime Ministership to a foreign national, and countrymen should not give Congress another opportunity to commit a similar blunder, 'since the party some day might even propose the name of the Columbian girlfriend of Rahul Gandhi for the key post'.

"India is not a dharamshala or a multinational, which anybody can lead," Bharti said addressing a public meeting at Parli in Beed district of Marathwada this afternoon, stating that only a person of Indian origin could lead the country.

Making a first ever attack on the Gandhi junior, Bharti said the Congress President was offered the key post due to her association with the Gandhi family and Congressmen could go to any extent for the family members.

"I fear, some day, Congressmen and even the Leftists may say that the Columbian girlfriend of Rahul be the next PM," she said.

Continuing attack on the Congress President, Uma said her arrest was a revenge taken by Sonia for blocking her way to the Prime Ministership. She urged people to thwart any such attempt in future.

Addressing her third public meeting in this temple town, known for its ancient Shiv temple, Uma compared the electorate to Lord Shiva who showered luck on those he loved, but could destroy the evil.

"Lord Shiva in the form of the electorate should burn the golden Lanka of the Congress to end the sinful rule," she said.

The BJP leader said she was touring the entire country to 'teach' Congress a lesson for arresting her, depriving her of the right to unfurl the tricolour.
