Tuesday, September 14 2004 22:45 Hrs (IST)

Vadodra: The special high level committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge U C Banerjee, recently appointed by the Union Cabinet to probe the fire in the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in February 2002 in which 58 'Ram Sevaks' were killed, will visit Godhra tomorrow (Sep 15, 2004) for an on the spot inquiry, Railway police sources said.

The team is expected to arrive in the city on Wednesday morning and leave for Godhra, sources said.

The Union Cabinet appointed the committee after Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav had announced ordering a high-powered departmental inquiry into the incident that had triggered communal violence in Gujarat.

The committee is expected to ascertain the cause of the fire in the coach, fix responsibilities for it and recommend suitable measures to prevent such incidents.
