Bloodshed in Iraq: 47 killed in Baghdad car bombing Tuesday, September 14 2004 17:32 Hrs (IST)
Baghdad:
Forty-Seven people were killed and 114 injured in a car bomb blast near police headquarters in Baghdad today (Sep 14, 2004).
According to witnesses dozens of people were queuing outside the station, which is also a police recruitment centre, when the explosives-rigged vehicle blew up.
The attack came just two days after fierce clashes between US forces and insurgents in the same area left at least 13 people dead and 55 injured.
Two other Iraqis were seriously wounded when another bomb exploded near the Planning Ministry almost simultaneously.
Police sources told that the first bomb struck outside the main entrance of the al-Karkh police centre, but the building suffered only minor damage.
Body parts were littered everywhere and pools of congealed blood were smeared across the pavement, a witness said.
