Abdul Kalam wants 'code of conduct' for the media
Tuesday, September 14 2004 11:02 Hrs (IST)

Dar es Salaam: Apparently concerned over media sensationalisation of the hanging of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, President A P J Abdul Kalam has sought a "code of conduct" for media and other professions.

"Time has come for a code of conduct" for all the people engaged in various professions, Kalam said in reply to a questioner during an interaction with people of Indian community Dar es Salaam.

The questioner said that the media had made Chatterjee, who was hanged for rape and murder of a girl, a "big hero".

He said just before leaving for Tanzania he addressed a communication to the Government on exactly what the questioner had said.

"I hope my Government will see such type of things do not happen," Kalam said.
