'Cong must improve Delhi before speaking about UP' Wednesday, September 15 2004 14:53 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, today (Sep 15, 2004) said Congress should rather try and focus their attention on improving the law and order in Delhi before speaking about the State.
Speaking to media persons on his arrival in Mumbai today, Singh, denied that there was any law and order problem in Uttar Pradesh and the Congress should rather turn their attention to Delhi where such problems occurred.
In a veiled criticism of Yadav Government, which Congress supports from outside, party President Sonia Gandhi had yesterday (Sep 14, 2004) remarked that the law and order in Uttar Pradesh "appeared to be bad".
On the issue of Maharashtra assembly polls, Singh said his party would contest the elections and their alliance would be 'issue-based'.
He, however, refused to divulge the alliance partners at this juncture nor the number of seats, his party would be contesting.
The party's State unit would take the final decision on the alliance, he said.
