Stamp scam: Telgi, others custody extended till Oct 8
Wednesday, September 15 2004 22:11 Hrs (IST)

Pune: A Special court today (Sep 15, 2004) extended till October 8 the magisterial custody of 63 accused in the multi-crore fake stamp case, including prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi.

Except for former Maharashtra Inspector General of Police Shridhar Vagal, who has been granted bail on health grounds by the High Court, all the other accused including Telgi and ex-DCP Pradeep Sawant, now on bail, were present in the court of Special Judge S Shembole.

Meanwhile, two applications for discharge from the case filed by former assistant commissioner of police M C Mulani and former Andhra Pradesh minister C B Krishna Yadav came up for hearing before the court today.

While hearing on Mulani's application has been posted to September 21, the application of Yadav would be taken up by the court again on September 17 as arguments of the Special Public Prosecutor of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) Raja Thakre remained inconclusive.

Yadav's advocate Somnath G Ladda submitted that the Special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Criminal Act) court did not have jurisdiction to try his client for the alleged offence that the former had allegedly committed in Hyderabad.

However, Thakre submitted that it was premature on the part of Yadav to seek discharge from the case as the investigations were still on.
