'Musharraf to continue as President, Army Chief'
Thursday, September 16 2004 09:18 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Despite a promise to give up his military post, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf would not quit as the Army Chief in view of the "prevailing circumstances" in the country, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Q) said yesterday (Sep 15, 2004).

Information Minister Shiekh Rashid told a media conference in Islamabad that Musharraf would remain as the Army Chief as the Constitution allowed the President to retain both the posts.

A resolution would soon be move in the National Assembly favouring Musharraf to continue to hold both the posts, he said announcing PML-Q's decision.
