Saturday, September 18 2004 16:28 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (Sep 18, 2004) said that the Government would take into confidence all UPA (United Progressive Alliance) partners and "fulfil their expectations".

Emerging out of a 90-minute luncheon meeting he and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had with veteran CPM (Communist Party Marxist) leaders Harkishan Singh Surjeet and Jyoti Basu, he told reporters, "Of course, we are committed to take all our colleagues and all coalition partners into confidence and we will fulfil their expectations."

Describing the meeting as "informal", he said various issues were discussed with the Left leaders, including Sitaram Yechury.

The Prime Minister said the discussions were held on the "working of the coalition, the works that are being undertaken and the plans for the future".
