Mulayam backs Left in opposing foreign consultants Tuesday, September 21 2004 18:57 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Sep 21, 2004) joined the Left parties in opposing foreign representatives from the World Bank and other multilateral agencies in the Planning Commission saying the country had enough intellectuals to do the job.
"The Communists are right. We are also opposed to the issue of having foreign experts" in consultative committees of the Planning Commission," he told reporters in New Delhi.
The country has its own experts and intellectuals who can apprise the situation better as they are familiar with the ground realities, Yadav said adding, "We don't need foreign experts to do the job."
While the Leftist allies are opposed to the presence of foreign representatives in the consultative committees of Planning Commission doing a mid-term appraisal of 10th plan, Dy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia said yesterday (Sep 19, 2004), "There was nothing wrong in getting to know their views."
