Arun Maira to work with Plan panel till 'kicked-out' Wednesday, September 22 2004 22:11 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Unfazed by the political controversy over the presence of foreign experts in the consultation process in Planning Commission, Arun Maira of US-based consultancy group Boston said he will continue to work in the Commission until he is "kicked-out".
"Unless and until someone kicks me out or tells me that I am useless, I would keep coming," said Maira, chairman of the Boston Consultancy Group, which along with McKinsey, World Bank and ADB has representatives in consultative committees on Mid-Term Appraisal of the Tenth Plan.
Maira, who attended the meeting of Planning Commission's consultative group on industry today (Sep 22, 2004), said he was not aware of other foreign experts offering to resign after controversy broke out on their involvement because of Left parties' objections.
"I do not know that," he told reporters.
McKinsey representative Adil Zainulbhai did not turn up for today's meeting of consultative group on industry.
"It is a good thing to get ideas and opinions from many people. What is this frustration all about? Why is this fear that if we hear somebody, it would be converted into action?" Maira said when asked for his comment about the Left parties' opposition to the presence of foreign experts in plan panel's committees.
"Why is this fear that this consultative process is going to immediately adopt someone else's idea and make it into action? Other countries have taken IMF and World Bank's advice and used it prudently. But that's not India. India never takes anybody's advice," he said.
