'At US they're terrorists, at Beslan they're rebels' Friday, September 24 2004 16:17 Hrs (IST)
Moscow:
Russian President Vladimir Putin today (Sep 24, 2004) flayed double standards in combating terrorism and asked the world to unite against the menace.
Speaking at the International Congress of over 120 news agencies from across the globe in Moscow, Putin said that the world should learn to speak in the same language in combating terrorism and unite in the war against terror.
He said that the mechanism of bipolar world are things of past and new mechanism for ensuring security of the people from terrorist threat can be achieved only through consolidated efforts of the world community.
Referring to the coverage of the hostage crisis at a Beslan school by the international media, he strongly resented the usage of words like 'rebels' and 'siege'.
"The killers and terrorists should be named as they are," Putin said emotionally.
