Eminent nuclear scientist Raja Ramanna passes away Friday, September 24 2004 09:48 Hrs (IST)

Dr Raja Ramanna, one of the doyens of India's nuclear science and associated with the country's first nuclear device test in 1974, died in Mumbai today (Sep 23, 2004) of intestine problem.
He was 79 and survived by wife, two daughters and a son.
Ramanna was admitted to Bombay Hospital on Tuesday and his end came at 19:30 (IST) today, his personal assistant Ramakrishna said.
Ramanna was "feeling all right this morning" but he breathed his last this evening," he said.
A former member of Rajya Sabha, Ramanna was associated with India's first nuclear testing in Pokhran in 1974.
He was the Director Emeritus of National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bangalore. He received Padmashri, Padmabhushan and Padmavibhushan awards.
