'Group of Ministers' to probe scams during NDA rule Tuesday, September 28 2004 20:41 Hrs (IST)

After the decision to probe the alleged scam involving allotment of prime land to Sangh Parivar, a Group of Ministers (GoM) has been assigned the work of probing various cases of alleged corruption including purchase of AK-47 rifles and Tehelka expose during the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) regime.
The GoM, headed by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, constituted last week, will also decide the future course of action regarding the appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the discharge of former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in the Ayodhya demolition case, sources said.
The first meeting of the GoM was held last week and it was decided to collect all relevant documents pertaining to the deals in which corruption charges were made by Congress when it was in Opposition.
Apart from Mukherjee, the GoM included HRD Minister Arjun Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Urban Development Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal.
The GoM would also probe the alleged involvement of former Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma and his relatives in a scam relating to transportation and under valuation of coal from Chattisgarh.
