Left welcomes dissolution of consultative groups
Thursday, September 30 2004 21:33 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Welcoming the Planning Commission's decision to dissolve its consultative groups, the Left parties, which had protested the presence of "Foreign" experts in these groups, today (Sep 30, 2004) said, good sense had prevailed and the Government cannot "ignore" their views.

Hailing it as victory for national interest, RSP (Republican Socialist Party) leader Abani Roy said, "Good sense prevailed upon the Planning Commission and whatever we had said has been heard."

Roy said, right noises made by the Left parties have yielded good and positive result, which is of national interest since the "foreign" experts could have had their own agenda.

The All India Forward Bloc leader Debabrata Biswas said, he certainly welcomed the decision by the Planning Commission and hoped that such controversies never occur in the future.

CPI (Communist Party of India) leader D Raja sought to know what would be the future course of action and the logic behind dissolving the consultative committees all together.

The CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) leaders were not available for comments.
