Friday, October 1 2004 19:06 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: India today (Oct 1, 2004) rejected US charge against two Indian scientists of selling weapons and providing sensitive technology to Iran and asked it to withdraw sanctions imposed on them.

"No sale of materials, equipment and technologies was involved. No transfer of sensitive technology has taken place," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters in New Delhi.

"The US Government has been requested to review the issue and to withdraw the sanctions imposed" on Ch Surender and Y S R Prasad, he said. Surendar and Prasad are former MDs and Chairmen of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.

Sarna said India has taken up the issue with the US at "several levels" in the last few days. "It has been conveyed that we do not share the US assessment," he said.
