EC to issue show cause notice to Sena over blast CD Saturday, October 2 2004 20:41 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai:
Show cause notice will be issued to Shiv Sena for recreating Ghatkopar bomb blast scene in a compact disc, prepared by Sena leader Raj Thackeray for October 13 Maharashtra Assembly polls, State Chief Election officer U P S Madan said in Mumbai today (Oct 2, 2004).
"The party has violated the model code of conduct by showing the compact disc in public (at Raj Thackeray's press conference) advertising the violent bomb blast without the permission of the EC office and will be served show cause notice tomorrow under the Cable Network Act," Madan told reporters.
"Although the CD does not mention the exact incident of the bomb blast, it was a violent advertisement of the incident and we have already rejected it," he said adding that it was shown in public without the Commission's permission.
"If this kind of advertisement is shown during the election time, there could be law and order problem in the State," Madan said.
When pointed out that these violent scenes were shown on cable channel earlier, he said, "It was shown during the incident. But it is not appropriate to show such scenes at the time of election."
