Army continues searching scrap for more explosives Sunday, October 3 2004 17:27 Hrs (IST)

Army today (Oct 3, 2004) continued its search for more explosives in the scrap brought from Iran to a local factory in Ghaziabad, where an explosion killed 10 people and injured 15 on Thursday.
An Army bomb disposal team and forensic experts searched through 11 trucks that have been brought to Kanha Upavan near Hindon river from Bhushan Steel Company's factory in Ghaziabad, where the blast had taken place.
So far, 43 rockets have been recovered from the scrap, which was to be melted down in the factory to make steel.
Bomb disposal squad of the Army has buried 14 rockets recovered from the scrap yesterday near the riverbed and would defuse them tonight, NSG officials said. Eight live explosives have already been defused.
The factory Bhushan Steel Company has been sealed and the scrap loaded trucks have been brought out of the complex and parked near the Hindon river.
The District Magistrate has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh to next of kin of the dead, Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured and Rs 25,000 each for those who suffered minor injuries.
SSP Ghaziabad Jai Narain Singh distributed the cheques to the victims of Thursday's explosion.
