New Delhi:
Sensing large scale violations in allotment of plots to social, religious and cultural institutes, Government is probing all allotments made by the previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) regime from 1999 to 2003.
The one-man Yogesh Chandra Committee, asked to probe the allotments, has as per initial estimates put the value of land allotted to certain religious, social and cultural institutes, including those affiliated to Sangh Parivar, at Rs 27,000 crore as per the present market rate, official sources said today (Oct 5, 2004).
The Committee, which was set up to probe allotment of 131 acres in Rouse Avenue, has now been asked to inquire into allotment of land to organisations in posh South Delhi locality Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.
Nearly 60 acres of land was split into 40 institutional, three school and two group housing society plots. Out of this 23 plots were allotted while others were in pipeline for allotment, the sources said.
One of the school plots was given to a society owned by a former Delhi MP and minister in previous Government, the sources said adding that the land was changed from residential to institutional.
One of society affiliated to Sangh Parivar was allotted five plots in prime locations at M B Road, Vasant Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar and Aaram Bagh near Connaught place. Out of these two plots measuring 1.5 acres were allotted on the same day on April 17, 2001, they said.
