Colombo:
Sri Lankan Navy today (Oct 5, 2004) arrested 20 Indian fishermen and seized their trawlers for violating the country's territorial waters, police said.
The fishermen, who were in five trawlers, were arrested for poaching and handed over to local police in Mannar in the northwest of the island, they said.
The men were expected to be taken before a magistrate later today.
Fishermen from the two countries are known to stray into each other's territorial waters along the narrow Palk Straits.
