NDA did nothing for Maharashtra, say Sonia, Pawar Tuesday, October 5 2004 18:52 Hrs (IST)
Nasik:
Sharing platform, both Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) chief Sharad Pawar today (Oct 5, 2004) launched a bitter attack on the Shiv Sena-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) combine and the previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government saying they did nothing for Maharasthra.
"Maharasthra would have seen development if we had a Government at the Centre," Gandhi said addressing a joint rally for the Assembly elections in Nasik on the second day of campaign.
Lashing out at the NDA rule, Gandhi said the BJP-led Government sought to distort history, "Their politics was not clean, the rule was riddled with corruption and the confidence of the nation was in tatters."
"The people of the country taught a lesson to the Shiv Sena-BJP and their allies at the Centre. They thought they could fool the countrymen by issuing advertisements but were defeated," Gandhi said.
She said the Congress emerged as the single largest party after the Lok Sabha polls and the BJP was yet to come to terms with their loss.
She said the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government was formed on specific issue and work on a Common Minimum Programme.
