Warning to NDA ministers; vacate or face eviction Tuesday, October 5 2004 16:48 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
A week after serving them a notice, the Urban Development Ministry has issued a reminder to six former Ministers, including Kanshi Ram Rana, Vinod Khanna and Ved Prakash Goel, to vacate their official residences in New Delhi failing which the ministry would initiate eviction proceedings against them.
The Ministry served reminders to the six including Rajshekhar Murthy, Ramesh Baish and Ananth Kumar and asked them to explain by October 12 as to why they should not be evicted from their present accommodation.
The notices were served last week under the Public Premises (Eviction) of Unauthorised Occupants Act of 1971, official sources said.
The new notices, part of the quasi judicial proceedings, have been issued to them as 14 ministers in the Congress-led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government were awaiting allotment of the official accommodation, the sources said. The Ministry had sent notices to them last month after cancelling their accommodation on September six.
The Urban Development Ministry has made alternative arrangements for these former ministers as they happened to be Members of Parliament from either house.
The sources said if the former ministers failed to vacate their premises by October 12, they could be physically evicted anytime after that.
