2.5 kgs of RDX, gelatin sticks recovered in Meghalaya Wednesday, October 6 2004 18:52 Hrs (IST)
Shillong:
In a major breakthrough, 2.5 kg RDX and an equal amount of gelatin sticks were recovered by a joint police team of Meghalaya and Assam from a house at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hill district, police said today (Oct 6, 2004).
The police team, which raided the house yesterday (Oct 5, 2004), had got the tip-off from some surrendered cadres of a militant group who led them to the spot.
Garo Hills police said that the house owner had been detained and interrogation was going on.
The police were yet to ascertain if the NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) or ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam), quite active in the area bordering Assam, was behind the move.
There was no timer device attached to the explosives that were kept hidden to be used at an "appropriate" time, he said.
Of late, Tikrikilla has been a hub of militant activities with three CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel sustaining injuries in an IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) blast in January 2004.
