Repeal of POTA responsible for Assam killings: VHP Wednesday, October 6 2004 18:17 Hrs (IST)
Hubli (Karnataka):
Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) International General Secretary, Dr Praveenbhai Togadia today (Oct 6, 2004) said that the VHP was opposed to the UPA Government's "double reservation" policy for Muslims in the country.
The policy aimed at "pleasing" Muslims who are already enjoying reservation under the Mandal Commission, "is not acceptable to the Hindus of this country", he told reporters in Hubli.
He said the Andhra Pradesh High Court had struck down the State Government's five per cent reservation for Muslim youth.
Referring to the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government's stand on POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), Togadia said, "the UPA Government is opening the flood gates" to terrorists striking in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur by repealing POTA.
"The terrorists are making Assam next Kashmir using repeal of POTA as a weapon and for this killing of innocent people, UPA Government is responsible," he alleged.
