Friday, October 8 2004 22:02 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: In an attempt to remove legal hurdles for Pervez Musharraf to continue as Pakistan's President and Army Chief, a Bill was moved today (Oct 8, 2004) in the country's Parliament to authorise him to hold both posts.

The Bill titled 'The President to Hold Office, Bill, 2004' was tabled in the 342-member National Assembly by Pakistan's Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Wasi Zafar.

The operational portion of the Bill said, "The holder of office of the President of Pakistan may, in addition to his office, hold another office in the service of Pakistan which is hereby declared not to disqualify its holder as provided under Article 63 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan or any other law for the time being in force or any judgment of any court or tribunal."
