Bomb blast near polling booth in WB; no casualties

Kolkata: A bomb exploded near a booth under Jorabagan Assembly constituency Kolkata during the by-election in West Bengal today (Oct 9, 2004) causing considerable tension among voters.

State election department sources said that none was injured in the explosion near the booth located in the Maheswari Panchayat Vidyalaya in north Kolkata.

Polling was not disrupted.

The sources said that miscreants also hurled a bomb at a booth located in Ahiritola Banga Vidyalaya in the same constituency, but it did not explode.

Police defused the bomb. Reinforcements were rushed to the area. There was no arrest.
